Getting the size right is part of what makes a personalised piece feel cozy rather than “nearly right”. This guide explains how to choose a sweatshirt that fits the way you like, a blanket that covers the person and the sofa you have in mind, and a pillow that suits the chair or bed it will live on. We do not print a generic body-measurement chart here, because the most reliable comparison is always the measurements listed on the product page against a garment or blanket you already own. Exact measurements for each item are shown on its product page.
1. Sweatshirts: how to choose your size
Sweatshirts are offered in adult sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. Sizing can differ from one brand to another, so a size L from us may not feel exactly like a size L you bought elsewhere. The steps below take about five minutes and remove most of the guesswork.
Measure a sweatshirt you love
- Lay a sweatshirt that fits you well flat on a table, front facing up, and smooth out wrinkles.
- Chest width: measure straight across from armpit seam to armpit seam, just below the arms.
- Body length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
- Sleeve length: measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
- Write the three numbers down and compare them with the measurements shown on our product page for each size.
Choosing between two sizes
- If your measurements fall between two sizes and you like a relaxed, cozy fit — for lounging, layering over a tee or sharing — choose the larger size.
- If you prefer a neater fit for wearing out, choose the smaller size.
- For matching family sweatshirts, choose each person’s size individually; the design looks matching even when sizes differ.
- Expect a little natural shrinkage if you wash warm or tumble dry hot; washing cold and drying on low keeps the fit you chose.
Buying a sweatshirt as a gift
Guessing someone else’s size is the classic gift worry. A few ideas: quietly borrow a sweatshirt they wear often and measure it; ask a partner or family member; or check the size label on a favourite top next time you visit. If you still are not sure, many people choose the larger of two sizes for a cozy sweatshirt. If it does not fit, the recipient can return it within 60 days of delivery with a free return label.
2. Size labels you will see
| Product | Size options | Where to find exact measurements |
|---|---|---|
| Sweatshirts | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL | Product page for each design |
| Fleece blankets | 30×40 in, 50×60 in, 60×80 in | Product page for each design |
| Throw pillows | 16×16 in, 18×18 in, 20×20 in | Product page for each design |
Not every design is offered in every size; the options available for a design are shown when you select it on the product page.
3. Blankets: which size for which use
Blanket size names describe the approximate width and length in inches. Here is how to think about them in everyday use:
- 30×40 in — a smaller throw for a lap, a stroller, a nursery chair or a child’s reading corner. A popular choice for new-baby blankets with a name and birth date.
- 50×60 in — the classic sofa throw. Enough to wrap one adult on the sofa or drape over the back of an armchair. A versatile size for name blankets and single-photo blankets.
- 60×80 in — the generous option for two people sharing the sofa, or to lie across the end of a bed. Gives long lists of names and photo collages the most room.
Measuring your space
- For a sofa throw, measure the seat width of the sofa and decide whether you want the blanket to drape over the arm or the back.
- For a bed, measure the width of the mattress top; a throw across the end of the bed usually looks best a little narrower than the bed itself.
- For a person, think about who will use it: a child, one adult, or two people sharing.
Size and personalisation
The more names or photos you want, the more room helps. A family surname with a year looks good on any size. Eight grandchildren’s names or a nine-photo collage are easier to read on a larger blanket. If you are unsure, email us the names or photos and the design you like, and we will suggest a size.
4. Pillows: which size for which spot
- 16×16 in — a neat accent pillow for an armchair, a reading nook or a child’s bed; lovely in pairs.
- 18×18 in — the everyday sofa pillow; sits well alongside most standard sofa cushions.
- 20×20 in — a statement pillow for a deep sofa, a window seat or the head of a bed; gives a photo the most room.
To check, measure the height of your sofa’s back cushions or the pillows already on your bed and choose a size that sits slightly in front of them. For a photo pillow, a larger size shows faces bigger; for a short line of text, any size works.
5. How sizing affects your order
- You choose the size on the product page before adding to the cart.
- Within 24 hours of ordering, you can change the size by emailing us — for a different price, we confirm the difference first. See Cancel or Change an Order.
- After 24 hours, the piece may already be printed; if the size is wrong when it arrives, return it within 60 days with the free label and order the size you need.
6. Exchanges for size
Size exchanges work as a return plus a new order: email us for a free return label, send the item back, and place a new order with the correct size and the same personalisation in the order notes. Your refund for the returned item is issued within 7 days of us receiving it. Ordering the new size straight away means it is printed sooner. Full details are on Returns & Exchanges and the Refund Policy.
Example: Dad’s sweatshirt runs roomy
You ordered a size XL “Dad Est. 2019” sweatshirt and it is too roomy. Measure the XL against his favourite sweatshirt to see how much smaller you need, request a free return label within 60 days of delivery, and order the size L with the same wording. The XL comes back to us, and the refund for it is issued within 7 days of arrival.
7. Care that keeps the fit
- Wash cold on a gentle cycle; turn sweatshirts and pillow covers inside out.
- Tumble dry on low or hang dry; high heat can shrink cotton blends and flatten fleece.
- Skip bleach and fabric softener.
- Never iron directly on the print.
- The care label on your item always takes priority.
8. Sizing for the whole family
Matching sweatshirts are lovely in photos, but every body is different. Collect each person’s measurements first — a group message asking everyone to measure their favourite sweatshirt works well — then add each size to the cart separately and write one line per sweatshirt in the order notes, for example “Sweatshirt 1 (L): Papa · Sweatshirt 2 (M): Mama · Sweatshirt 3 (S): Lily”. If one size turns out wrong, only that sweatshirt needs to come back.
9. Measuring tips that avoid mistakes
- Use a soft tape measure if you have one; a metal tape or ruler works for flat garments laid on a table.
- Measure in inches if you can, because our blanket and pillow size names use inches. If you measure in centimetres, divide by 2.54 to convert.
- Lay garments flat without stretching them; a stretched hem adds length that is not really there.
- Measure twice and write the numbers down before you start comparing.
- For chest width, measure one side only (armpit to armpit across the front) — product measurements of this kind are usually given the same way. Check the product page to confirm how its measurements are taken.
10. Picking the right size as a gift for different people
| Recipient | Blanket idea | Sweatshirt tip |
|---|---|---|
| New baby | 30×40 in name and date blanket | Check the product page for the sizes available for a design |
| Grandparent with many grandchildren | 60×80 in, so every name has room | Measure a cardigan or sweatshirt they wear often |
| Couple in a new home | 50×60 in or 60×80 in sofa throw | Order each person’s size separately |
| Teenager or student | 50×60 in for a dorm bed or desk chair | A relaxed fit often means the larger of two sizes |
| Dad or grandpa | 50×60 in for the armchair | Compare with a favourite sweatshirt’s chest width |
These are starting points, not rules. If a gift does not fit, it can come back within 60 days of delivery with a free return label.
11. Questions about sizing
Do your sweatshirts run small or large?
Fit varies by design and blank, so the measurements on each product page are the reliable guide. Compare them with a sweatshirt you own.
Are kids’ sizes available?
The size options for each design are shown on its product page. If you are looking for a particular size for a child, email us and we will tell you what is available.
Can I get a custom blanket size?
We offer the sizes shown on each product. If you have a special request, ask us before ordering.
Which blanket size for a baby?
Many people choose the 30×40 in size for a nursery chair or stroller, and the 50×60 in size for a keepsake that grows with the child.
Does a photo look different on a larger blanket?
A larger blanket shows a photo bigger, which is lovely for a sharp, bright picture but also makes softness or grain more visible. For a phone photo taken in low light or heavily zoomed, a pillow or a smaller blanket is often the kinder choice. Email us the photo and the size you are considering for an honest opinion.
Will a 60×80 in blanket fit on a twin bed?
Compare the blanket size with the top of the mattress: measure its width and length and decide whether you want the blanket to lie on top, hang over the sides, or sit folded across the end. The exact finished measurements on the product page help you check.
12. Still unsure?
Email support@thecozyprint.shop with the product, the measurements you took and who it is for, and we will help you choose. We reply within 24 hours on business days. You can also browse sweatshirts, blankets and throw pillows, or read the FAQs.
